How to Eat Around the Holidays

How to Eat Around the Holiday🦃 šŸ½ļø

With the holidays coming up, a lot of questions start floating around:

  • How do I avoid gaining weight over the holidays?

  • How can I restrict calories without being weird?

  • Can I still eat pie?

  • How do I track my calories during a big Thanksgiving meal?

  • Should I still workout during the holidays?

  • If I miss a week, should I just start back January 1st?

All good questions, and some of my answers may actually surprise you.

Let’s look at the facts šŸ“Š

Holidays only come a couple of times a year. One meal will not ruin your months of hard work. In many cases, a relaxed meal with family may even be the mental break your body and brain need to keep going long term.

Trying to eat perfectly 24/7 is exhausting and unrealistic. Thanksgiving dinner with family you rarely see? That’s life. One meal isn’t the problem. Your consistent habits the other 360+ days of the year are what actually moves the needle.

What to do to keep your holiday under control šŸ˜Ž

1ļøāƒ£ Eat a light breakfast, don’t ā€œsave upā€ calories!šŸ’”

  • Skipping meals can actually make you so hungry that you eat more than you would have by eating two meals.

  • Light protein (and fiber) centered breakfast can set you up for the win!

2ļøāƒ£ Leave the leftovers for everyone else. šŸ›‘šŸ±

  • Enjoy all the food you want, but don’t bring the extras home with you! That’s an easy way to overeat for multiple days following the holiday.

  • It’s ā€œThanksgiving Dayā€ not ā€œThanksgiving Weekendā€

3ļøāƒ£ Listen to your body! 🧠

  • When you’re full, you’re full. Don’t force feed yourself until you’re sick. Do I really need to say anymore?

4ļøāƒ£ Get smaller portions. šŸ„„

  • Holiday meals are side dish heaven. And of course we’re going to try them all.

  • Instead of loading your plate up, try and get smaller portions of everything.

  • You taste it all, but with half the calories.

5ļøāƒ£ Don’t beat yourself up about it! 🄊

  • This is key!

  • No extra cardio.

  • No next day fasts.

  • No guilt.

  • Back to the regularly planned schedule on Monday.

The big picture🌟

A common theme with my newsletters, but you work out, eat well, and take care of yourself so you can live your life.
So when those rare moments come… live it.
Have a dessert. Laugh with your family. Enjoy the traditions. Be present.

You don’t need perfection; you need consistency.
And consistency is built by learning when to go hard and when to relax.
