How to Eat Around the Holidays

How to Eat Around the Holidayš¦ š½ļø
With the holidays coming up, a lot of questions start floating around:
How do I avoid gaining weight over the holidays?
How can I restrict calories without being weird?
Can I still eat pie?
How do I track my calories during a big Thanksgiving meal?
Should I still workout during the holidays?
If I miss a week, should I just start back January 1st?
All good questions, and some of my answers may actually surprise you.
Letās look at the facts š
Holidays only come a couple of times a year. One meal will not ruin your months of hard work. In many cases, a relaxed meal with family may even be the mental break your body and brain need to keep going long term.
Trying to eat perfectly 24/7 is exhausting and unrealistic. Thanksgiving dinner with family you rarely see? Thatās life. One meal isnāt the problem. Your consistent habits the other 360+ days of the year are what actually moves the needle.
What to do to keep your holiday under control š
1ļøā£ Eat a light breakfast, donāt āsave upā calories!š”
Skipping meals can actually make you so hungry that you eat more than you would have by eating two meals.
Light protein (and fiber) centered breakfast can set you up for the win!
2ļøā£ Leave the leftovers for everyone else. šš±
Enjoy all the food you want, but donāt bring the extras home with you! Thatās an easy way to overeat for multiple days following the holiday.
Itās āThanksgiving Dayā not āThanksgiving Weekendā
3ļøā£ Listen to your body! š§
When youāre full, youāre full. Donāt force feed yourself until youāre sick. Do I really need to say anymore?
4ļøā£ Get smaller portions. š„
Holiday meals are side dish heaven. And of course weāre going to try them all.
Instead of loading your plate up, try and get smaller portions of everything.
You taste it all, but with half the calories.
5ļøā£ Donāt beat yourself up about it! š„
This is key!
No extra cardio.
No next day fasts.
No guilt.
Back to the regularly planned schedule on Monday.
The big pictureš
A common theme with my newsletters, but you work out, eat well, and take care of yourself so you can live your life.
So when those rare moments come⦠live it.
Have a dessert. Laugh with your family. Enjoy the traditions. Be present.
You donāt need perfection; you need consistency.
And consistency is built by learning when to go hard and when to relax.
